High Tech Adventure
July 5-July 8. Ages: 5-8 9am-1pm. Please bring a sack lunch Teachers – Laura Olson and Jessica Bernert Cost: $110.00Piracy on the high seas guided by satellites? Learn about the latest treasure hunting scheme – geocaching! Use a compass and a G.P.S to find hidden treasure; it’s all around you. Oregon City is the initial site of geocaching – the motherlode! We’ll find hidden sites around the school, make our own geo-cache (and spy on people who discover it), design maps, have adventures and learn about the gadgets of modern pirates.
Creepy and Crawling Creatures
July 6-8. Ages 3-4. 9am-1pm. Please bring a sack lunch. Teachers: Cheri Morgan and Pat Gable Cost:$90.00We will have great fun together as we take a closer look at some of our smallest creatures. We will look high and low as we travel through the woods, turning over leaves, rocks and wood to see what might be hiding. Then what? Join us to find out!
Mud And Straw Part One
July 12-July 15. Ages: 5-8 9am-1pm. Please bring a sack lunch. Teachers -Jessica Bernert and Mary Mahorney Cost: $110.00This is a multi- layer exploration of art, history and construction. This class will learn about the local history through a walking tour of the neighborhood. Looking through the lens of a camera, drawing the self styled journals and interviewing local historians, the children will design a totem that reflects the history that embodies their school, take off their shoes and mix mud, straw and water to create cobb. Building with cobb, an ancient medium of straw and mud, we will produce a modern outdoor structure for the garden; think Andy Goldworthy meets Cristo. A second class building on this week’s learning will be available the following week.
Water, Water Everywhere, Part One
July 12-July 15. Ages: 5-8 9am-1pm. Please bring a sack lunch. Teachers- Laura Olson and Suzanne Smith Cost: $110.00Ever wonder what powers the lights in your house? How about a fairy house? This week begins with walks to the nearby falls to study and document the power of water, and investigations into the hidden nooks of the meadow and garden – a fairy’s favorite hiding spot. Children in the class will learn about circuitry, alternative sources of energy, and the challenge of powering a single light bulb in a fairy house of their creation. There will be lots of experimentation with water and many forms of generation from ancient to modern, with a mystical twist. We are tentatively planning a trip to Bonneville dam. A second class building on this week’s learning will be available the following week.

Wiggle in the mud, splash in the paint, ooze through the goop. Wear your worst clothes and make the biggest mess

Our final project will be to create a message center in the new MECC Village area. We will use real tools, both people powered and electric, natural and found material to explore the basics of fort building. As a camper last year asked, “Are we trying to survive?” Yes!
